Printed overlays are transparent, precisely-fitting cuts that are printed with black symbols or text in order to be temporarily applied to traffic signs. They feature the high-quality PVC film ORALITE® 5021 from Orafol® which was specifically designed for the temporary application on ORALITE® reflective films due to its favourable properties: transparent clear, soft, weatherproof and easy to remove.
In comparison to Lettering Films | , Printed Overlays | are more convenient to use since letters, numbers and symbols do not have to be applied individually to the traffic sign. Once the additional information on the overlay is not needed anymore, the entire overlay can be simply peeled off without any problems or tools. No tedious removal of individual stickers, which saves a lot of time.
The application of overlays is just as easy. We recommend the use of water for trouble-free positioning of the sheet. Watch our video tutorial for a step-by-step guide (English subtitles available):
As a base for temporary traffic signs with printed overlays, mainly three signs are used: No vehicles (German traffic sign no. 250), Give way (German traffic sign no. 205) and a blank supplementary sign (according to StVO, white with black frame).
These three signs combined with printed overlays offer a wide range of new signs such as Road works, Road narrows, Maximum speed, Restricted times as an addition to No stopping signs and many more. You find the blank traffic signs here | .
In addition to the easy and time-saving handling of printed overlays further advantages are cost and space efficiency. Due to the flexible repurposing of the signs, space can be saved in both transport and storage and fewer new signs need to be purchased for each temporary sign needed, which helps to reduce costs.
There are several fields of application for printed overlays which mainly have been designed for companies providing traffic equipment, road safety service providers, construction site safety providers or moving companies.
When applied correctly, the transparent base film has a service life of 2 years and removes without residues from most surfaces within that period.
