All You Need to Know About Reflectors

Reflectors help you to improve your visibility when it is dark or foggy. Other road users will recognise you much earlier and hence can react better if you have a rear reflector installed to your bike, trailer or rucksack.

Screw-on reflectors made of plastic are much sturdier than reflective stickers, which may get lose over time. Once installed, they fulfil their duty for many years – even decades.

Special Fields of Application in Germany

In Germany, these reflectors are not only popular for private use but also required by the German Regulations for Use of Vehicles on the Road (StVZO) for the following vehicles:

  • motor vehicles (not wider than 2.20m) with trailer
  • trailers (caravans, horse box trailers etc.)
  • soil cultivation machines
  • motor-assisted bikes / motorized bicycles

Please note that there are more regulations referring to the use of reflectors on motor vehicles and trailers on German roads. Since they cannot all listed here you have to make sure to inform yourself before using trailers in Germany.
